CONFERENCE
Sindija Balode-Kraujina, a researcher at the University of Latvia's Department of Geography, participated in the 4th European Network on International Student Mobility (ENIS) Conference, held in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, from 3–5 June 2026.
She presented the study “Mapping the Urban Patterns of International Students in Riga: Multiscale Analysis for Policy and Practice”, co-authored with Elina Apsite-Berina, the leader of the project “International student mobility towards off-beat destinations: geography, demographic profile and lived experiences in Latvia”. The presentation highlighted key findings on the spatial distribution of international students in Riga, providing empirical evidence of studentification and its intersections with urban structure, gentrification, and evolving ethnic diversity. These findings offer actionable, spatial evidence for stakeholders to improve integration strategies, targeted housing policies, and urban amenities.
The ENIS Conference serves as an important platform for bringing together researchers and practitioners working in the field of international student mobility. Participation in the conference provided an opportunity to contribute empirical evidence and methodological innovation to the growing interdisciplinary discussion on international student mobility while fostering international research collaboration.
