Project Results Presented at the Regional Conference of Geographers in Talsi!

The Latvian Geographical Society organises an annual regional conference in one of Latvia’s cities or municipalities, bringing together geographers, researchers, educators, and other interested participants. The conference aims to educate the public and raise awareness of current issues in geography, society, and regional development. This year, the conference was held in Talsi and brought together more than 90 participants—the largest number of participants to date.

The project researchers, Ieva Jegermane and Sindija Balode-Kraujiņa, participated in the conference with a presentation titled “International Students in Latvia’s Regions and in Latvia.” The presentation examined trends in international student mobility, changes in the number of international students in Latvia and the Baltic States. It paid particular attention to the role of international students at regional higher education institutions in Latvia.

The presentation emphasised that attracting international students is important not only for the internationalisation of higher education but also for the development of Latvia’s regions, particularly at a time when the overall number of students at regional higher education institutions is declining.
